Setting record straight about Animal Welfare League

My name is Debbie VanderMaas and I am the president of the Vernon Animal Welfare League. About a month ago there was an article written regarding the league and saying that people drop off their animals behind the A&P and that’s where the league comes in to help. That is not correct by any means. First off, the league has nothing to do with cats or animals that are dropped off anywhere. Our league helps with the costs associated with spaying and neutering of animals for Vernon residents, that’s it! What was said to the paper was that I used to take care of cats myself, behind the A&P, awhile ago but no longer. I think people got the wrong impression and have dropped off cats behind the A&P thinking or hoping somebody would be able to care for them. Please, don’t leave your animals just anywhere! That’s what the shelter helps with and for whatever reason you can no longer care for your animals, you need to contact the proper authorities and hopefully, they will be able to help you. The Vernon Animal Welfare League was started 30 years ago to help with the animal population in Vernon. We are trying to control the overabundance of animals, not create more problems! Once again, neither myself nor the league takes care of any animals anywhere. From the animals that don’t have a voice, please be responsible for your animals and do the right thing for them. Thank you. Debbie VanderMaas Vernon
