SPARTA — The Sparta United Methodist Church will offer the self-facilitated course on “Voluntary Simplicity,” developed by the Northwest Earth Institute (www.nwei.org) beginning Sunday, Jan. 25 at 9:15 a.m. Simplicity means different things to different people, organizers said. In this discussion course, participants will explore together how “to make their lives simpler and less stressful, and how life might be enriched through the practice of simplicity.” Topics covered will include: “The Meaning of Simplicity,” “Living More with Less,” “Making a Living,” “Do You Have the Time,” and “Living Simply and Sustainably.” Participants will gain an understanding of the meaning of voluntary simplicity; explore the material and psychological distractions “that prevent people from caring for Earth”; consider how life might be enriched through the practice of simplicity; and develop a personal action plan to integrate simplicity into their lives, according to organizers. Fee is $21 for the five sessions, plus an introductory session. The program runs through March 1. For information and registration, call 973-362-1151.
