Simply Dance students accepted into dance programs

Vernon — Two local students who take dance classes at Simply Dance in Vernon have been accepted into intensive programs for dance. Devin Welch, a 14-year-old student at Simply Dance in Vernon, was accepted into the Visual and Performing Arts program at the Morris County School of Technology located in Denville, where she is a freshman. In order to gain entrance into the program, Devin had to submit an application, take a written exam, attend an interview and audition. Devin attends classes in ballet, modern and jazz daily, along with classes in dance history, improvisation, dancer health and nutrition and theatre. In addition, Devin also takes the usual classes in English, biology, French, geometry and world history. Also, at Simply dance, she takes tap, jazz, ballet, acro and lyrical. Devin is also a member of the Simply Dance Ensemble, their competition dance team. She aspires to have a career in dance in the future. Pierson Hall, also a student at Simply Dance, was accepted into the Joffrey School of Ballet Young Dancers Program in New York City. After an audition, Pierson was accepted into the boys intermediate program designed for boys ages 9 to 12 despite the fact that he is not quite 8 years old. The program includes conditioning designed specifically for boys and upon completion students will know 1st, 2nd, and 5th positions; plié, tendu, degage, ron de jambe, releve, sauté, changement, simple port de bras; skips and chasses, and the posture, placement and comportment of classical ballet. In addition to his ballet classes, Pierson also takes hip hop, tap, and jazz at Simply Dance and is also a member of the Simply Dance Ensemble.
