Speech clinic provides therapy over the Internet
Kean University’s Institute for Adults Living with Communication Disabilities recently launched speech language therapy services over the Internet. The new program, Telepractice, is designed to provide rehabilitation support services to individuals with communication impairments in their homes. “Therapy on a regular basis is a vital component to overcoming communication impairments,” said Dr. Mary Jo Santo Pietro, the Institute’s director. “This innovative approach to therapy will help prevent a slowdown in the recovery process for clients who have difficulty traveling.” Telepractice connects clients with a therapist using a computer, internet connection, webcam and headset. Clients receive a high level of support and individual care as they would if they were attending a therapy session at the speech clinic.
