Area schools take part in swim meet

NEWTON — The eighth annual Skylands Swimming Invitational took place on Saturday, Jan. 18 at Kittatinny Regional High School.

High Point Regional, Sparta, Pope John XXIII, Jefferson Township, Vernon Township, Wallkill Valley Regional and United Newton-Lenape Valley (Newton & Lenape Valley combined) also took part in the invitational.

Unlike other swim meets the schools were not awarded points on performance as a team. The Skylands Swimming Invitational focuses on an athletes individual performance.

High Point's Danielle Price won the girls' 50-meter freestyle, while the girls 400-yard freestyle relay team of Cassie o'Hern, Price, Sarah Roose and Alyssa Woolery picked up a win with a time of 4:38.29.

Jefferson Township's team of morgan Carline, Taylor Good, Michele Poquette and Kelly Brown won the girls' 200-yard medley relay. Good also won the girls' 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:53.94.

Jefferson's Tom Dowd won the boys 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.26 seconds and the 100-yard freestyle in 1:00.32. Brown won the girls 100-yard freestyle in 1:05.64. Jeffersn's Meredith Obaytek won the girls 500-yard freestyle in 7:05.22, while Scott Mettler won the boys 500-yard freestyle in 6:43.16.
