Habu wrestler wins gold at tournament

WAYNE — Vernon Habu wrestlers traveled to DePaul High School in Wayne to participate in the Spartan Classic Novice Tournament on Sunday, Jan. 19.
Sergio Germinaro scored three victories to win a gold medal. Germinario used a series of headlock techniques to win two of his bouts by pinfall, then scored a third pin using a well-executed cradle, ending his day with a perfect 3-0 record.
Taking silver for Habu was Jake Ezzo with a second-period pin in his final bout of the day. Third place finishers included: Jo Jo Germinario, Shane Saulnier and Colm Esposito.
Also wrestling for Habu were fourth-place finishers Joey Frassa, Hugh Shortway, Jr. Troche, Dave Moyle, Sebastian Castro and Zach Ezzo.
