Running camp planned in Newton

A running camp that takes budding runners on an “x-treme” week-long journey will return to Newton this summer. The X-Treme experience helps kids run faster and race like champions is planned for Monday, Aug. 1 until Friday, Aug. 4 at Lodestar Park.
For high school and middle school kids who are serious about running — or want to get in shape for whatever fall sport they do,-X-Treme Running Camp cultivates endurance and speed-enhancement in a context of motivation and goal-setting, Internationally-acclaimed runners, including Irish Olympian, Marcus O'Sullivan, are on hand during the week to speak about their experiences and work with the campers.
“The X-Treme Running Camp gets you in shape both physically and mentally for your upcoming cross country season,” said Joe Dragon, the 2015 Cross Country State Champion who is a senior at High Point High School. “The speakers are amazing, the coaches motivational, and it's great running with so many other great athletes from other schools.”
Entering its 16th year, X-Treme Running Camp has gained the reputation as one of the most prestigious running camps in the Northeast. Runners of all abilities are welcome as well as athletes involved in other sports looking to improve their endurance, speed and overall fitness.
Camp runs from 9 a.m. to noon, and each day includes an endurance session, a speed session (in each kids are grouped according to their ability) plus a highly-acclaimed guest speaker.
All counselors and speakers are, themselves, seasoned runners and motivate with goal-setting, visualization, form analysis, injury prevention, overall core and body strength building, racing techniques and the power to believe in your elf and reach your full potential.
