The Vernon Vikings lacrosse team defeated High Point Regional High School, 15-3, giving the team the NJAC Pooley Division championship.

The day was also a success due to efforts by Vernon lacrosse coach Harry Shortway and Phil Tintle, the sports teams lead writer for the Red Bandanna Project.

The project honors the memory of Welles Crowther, a civilian hero of the 9/11 attacks on The World Trade center. Crowther also was a high school lacrosse player in Nyack, N.Y. before sacrificing his life to help save others.

According to Tintle, the fundraising efforts were a success. The Vikings purchased 19 Welles Crowther red wristbands totaling $135 and Tintle collected $185 from spectators who attended the game.
