Taking it to the streets

Bear advocates took to the streets of Vernon on Saturday, Aug. 1, gathering with placards at the intersection of Route 94 and Church Street between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. The event was held to protest recent bear killings in Vernon. According to the Web site www.njbearhunt.com, despite a permitted bear hunt in the state, the problem of black bears in residential areas has “drastically increased.” Vernon police shot two black bears recently, one that entered a garage and one that entered a house.
