CLAWS Cat Rescue & Adoption Shelter of Sussex, Inc. CLAWS is an Augusta-based rescue for abandoned, abused, or neglected cats. Their adoption fee of $40 includes all age appropriate vaccines. All cats and kittens have tested FIV/FELV negative and are also wormed and treated for parasites, including fleas and ticks. Cats of age are spayed/neutered before adoption. On June 27, CLAWS will hold its 2nd annual fundraiser car show at the Skylands Ballpark on Route 565 in Augusta. Car entries are charged $25 each, which includes a box seat to the 2:05 p.m. Sussex Skyhawks game when registered by June 15. The show is open to the public from 1 to 6 p.m. for a donation of just $1 per person. For more information on CLAWS, their cats, or the car show, visit clawscatshelter.com or call 973-875-8540. Safe Hounds Beagle Rescue, Inc. Piper is a young beagle girl that was surrendered after she hadn’t shown much interest in chasing bunnies for her owner, who hunted rabbits. She is very shy and submissive and is learning to trust people. She is excellent with small dogs and loves to play. Baxter is a young beagle boy from Virginia. He must have been someone’s hunting dog because he was wearing a hunting collar when found, but no one ever claimed him. Baxter is approximately two years old and weighs 35 pounds. He is friendly, playful, and outgoing with everyone, including other dogs. Baxter likes to chase cats, so he will need a home without kitties. He’d also be perfectly content to be an only pet. For more information on Piper, Baxter, and Safe Hounds’ other dogs, visit www.safehounds.com or call 973-729-8431. Under My Wing Avian Refuge Under My Wing Avian Refuge has many birds looking for homes and in rehabilitation. One of these birds is Chip, a blue and gold macaw. Chip arrived with a broken ankle and will need surgery. He also sustained a broken beak and appeared to have bites on his body, possibly from another bird attacking him. Donations are needed to supplement his medical care. The refuge is also seeking two 10x10 dog kennels to prepare outdoor aviaries for the birds. They are always in need of fresh fruits and vegetables, bird toys and food, and other supplies. Volunteers are also needed and greatly appreciated. For more information on Under My Wing Avian Refuge, visit www.exoticbirdsrefuge.org or call 973-827-1777. Room For One More Room For One More has two long-time residents seeking new homes. Lady is an energetic 5-year-old collie/shepherd mix that would instantly make someone a special friend. Diamond is a boxer/Rhodesian ridgeback mix who enjoys long walks and is very people-oriented. For more information on Lady, Diamond, and Room For One More’s other animals, visit www.rfom.org or call 973-770-6700.
