Township hires top financial officer

Vernon Vernon Township will have a new CFO, with an office in town hall starting Aug. 3. William Zuckerman was approved as the new chief financial officer, filling a position left open since 2007. “You have some interesting challenges here. I have been meeting with your staff and will be meeting with the auditors as soon as possible to get a good picture,” Zuckerman commented. A resident of Florham Park, Zuckerman has been working as a CPA for over 40 years and previously served as a financial officer in Closter and Washington Borough. He is also currently an adjunct professor of accounting at the College of Saint Elizabeth in Madison. In the absence of a full-time CFO, the financial duties have been managed by consultant Robert Benecke of Benecke Economics in Moonachie, but Mayor Austin Carew says he will be happy to have full-time staff. “It’s an integral part of our township to have a CFO on site every day to help our manager and staff,” said Carew.
