Two from GOP file for committee seat

Wantage — Republicans William Gaechter and Gregory Williams have filed petitions to run for a seat on the Wantage Township Committee and will vie for their party’s nomination. Whoever gets the most Republican votes in the June 2 primary will be the party’s candidate on the ballot for the November general election. The same process takes place for the Democrats, although no petitions were filed by the deadline. This means that if a Democrat receives enough write-in votes at the primary, his or her name will go on the ballot for the Democrats in the November general election. The incumbent, Mayor Parker Space, has chosen to not seek re-election. He holds his term, however, through Dec. 31. The winner in the November election will take over Space’s seat on the committee as of January 2010. It will be up to the three elected representatives in 2010 to decide who will be the 2010 Wantage mayor.
