    March 12 At approximately 11:20 p.m. Vernon Police officers were dispatched to a one-vehicle accident near the intersection of Route 565 and Armstrong Road. Upon arrival officers located a 1997 Chevy SUV with heavy damage to the front of the vehicle. On-scene police investigation revealed that the white male driver fled on foot from the accident scene and was last seen running south through a wooded area. Vernon K-9 officer William Gebhard responded with his bloodhound Miranda. Miranda tracked the suspect through the wooded area and then back out to Route 565 and then continued to track the suspect on the paved roadway. Miranda located the suspect hiding in a water-filled culvert pipe that ran under the roadway. John D. Dunn, 44, of Ogdensburg was placed under arrest and charged with driving while intoxicated, refusal of required breath tests, careless driving, failure to have vehicle insurance, failure to keep right and having unsafe tires on his motor vehicle. Dunn was released to a family member pending a March 31 Vernon Municipal Court date. His vehicle was impounded for a period of 12 hours in accordance with state law.
