    VVehicles destroyed as arson is suspected Vernon — The Vernon Police are investigating a fire that was reported at 2:33 a.m., on Wednesday Sept. 9. The owners of a home on Colonial Circle in the Glenwood section reported that their vehicle, a 2003 Humvee, was on fire. When the police arrived both the Humvee and a 2003 Corvette were fully involved, The Vernon Fire Department arrived and extinguished the fire. Both vehicles were totaled and two other cars were damaged along with the garage doors and the front of the home near the garage. The fire has been ruled suspicious and is being investigated by The Vernon Police, Sussex County Prosecutor’s Office and the NJ State Police Arson Unit. The Vernon Fire Prevention Inspectors assisted with the initial investigation. The Glenwood Pochuck Ambulance Squad also responded to stand by at the fire scene. Police are asking anyone with information about this fire or who had seen anything suspicious to contact the Vemon Police Detective Bureau at 973-764-6155. Man charged with aggravated arson On Sept 10, Vernon Township Police arrested William F. Greer III, a 32-year-old West Milford excavator for 2nd degree Aggravated Arson. On Aug. 28 Greer was arrested by Vernon Detectives without incident outside of The Old School Pub on Warwick Turnpike in Hewitt N.T with the assistance of the West Milford Police. On Aug. 4, a resident on Van Buren Avenue reported that someone damaged her vehicle, a 2009 Ford Mustang. The investigation by the Vernon Police, The New Jersey State Police Crime Scene and the Sussex County Prosecutors Office determined that an unknown person attempted to destroy the vehicle by inserting a makeshift cloth fuse into the gas tank and lighting it on fire. Luckily the fire only scorched the paint and damaged the gas cap & did not ignite the vehicle. The investigation indicated that during the early morning hours of Aug. 4, Greer committed this crime after blaming the victim for a recent a relationship break-up with a separate female. He was processed and released on $25,000 bail. Dispute leads to stabbing and assault charges Vernon Police on Sept. 10 arrested Nancy Zammito, 46, and Craig Corvino, 42, who both reside in the Highland Lake section of the township. On Sept. 5, at 1:30 a.m., officers responded to Glen Wild Way in Highland Lakes, in response to a report of a person slumped over in the front seat of a vehicle. Police found blood smeared on the exterior and of the interior of the car and the person inside, who was identified as Zammito. An investigation revealed that Ms. Zammito was involved in a physical altercation with Corvino at their residence. Officers responded to the home, located Corvino who was suffering from a stab wound to his arm and a laceration and blunt force trauma to the head. He was flown by helicopter to Morristown University Hospital, where he was treated and later released. Nancy Zammito was charged with Aggravated Assault and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose she was released on $1,000 bail. Craig Corvino was served with a complaint charging him with simple assault.
