‘Voiceless' Vernonite favors Shortway, Pier and Benda

Vernon needs Harry Shortway, Michael Pier and Craig Benda — at least those of us who make up the Vernon that you know and love. I speak for many, many people in Vernon, and I pray that we are in the majority. I can’t tell, because we have become almost voiceless out of fear or helplessness. Those who try to speak up are threatened and silenced or drowned out or ignored. We are good people who know our government is not perfect, but we know the difference between human error and criminal behavior. I am convinced those three candidates do, too, and will do their best to help Vernon improve. Don’t let the good people be driven out of town, as the quality of life in Vernon slowly erodes. Don’t let the voices of Lake Walkill, asking only that their rights and wishes be respected, be ignored. Don’t let Vernon compromise its values for the sake of progress and development. Don’t let us become a town that respects the rights of those who lived here hundreds of years ago, but not those of the good people living here now. I know that Shortway, Pier and Benda will work to help heal and strengthen the spirit of Vernon — the quiet voices that have not yet been completely silenced. We need Shortway, Pier and Benda — and hopefully we will band together and make sure we vote and give them a chance to do what I know they can and will to help us save Vernon. Dorothy LeFebvre Vernon
