Volunteer to help someone learn to read

Literacy Volunteers of Sussex County tutors adults in Sussex County and northern Warren County who need to improve their English. These adults are both U.S.-born and foreign-born. The one-on-one, free tutoring is done by volunteer tutors. It is most gratifying to the tutor to bring about a big improvement in someone’s life. Literacy Volunteers of Sussex County trains volunteers for this tutoring. Training for new volunteers will be offered: Thursday evenings at 6:30 p.m., March 4 through April 15, in Tranquility; and Wednesday evenings, at 6:30 p.m., March 10 through April 21, in Newton. The first meeting is an orientation to the tutoring process, which helps a potential tutor decide whether to participate in this rewarding mission.
