Voters pass budgets in all districts

    Tuesday’s school board elections, reported by the Sussex county clerk, show a light turnout across the county. At High Point High School, Joseph Luna and Garrett Link will join the board. The budget was voted in by a wide margin; 1,228 yes votes and 753 against. There were no contests at Wallkill Valley High’s board, and Marie Scott, Aida Mulvanerton and Lynette Apolito were handily voted in. The budget passed as well, with 1,267 votes for and just 65 against. (Check page 12 for Hardyston results.) In Franklin Borough, four candidates sought three seats. Mary Alonso, Richard Kell and Michael Payton were the top three vote-getters. Voters approved the budget; 217 for and 143 against. In Hamburg, Allen Rude Jr., Stephen Wassel and Dawn O’Grady were unchallenged in their bids for three available three-year seats on the school board. Virginia S. Rude lost her bid for a one-year seat on the board to Charles McCann. The Hamburg school budget squeaked by with 130 votes in favor and 104 against. Voters in Lafayette chose Andrew Frye, Marianne Sharpe and Attila Ozbek as the three to take the three three-year board seats available. The budget was voted in with 197 in favor and 167 against. In Ogdensburg, voters were asked to choose three candidates for three-year terms. David Astor, Richard Predmore and Ann E. Sekelsky were the top vote-getters. The school budget passed with 176 for and 95 against.
