Water line work continues to tie up Route 94 traffic

vernon-Those who travel on Route 94 between Mountain Creek and the intersection of Route 515 in Vernon during daytime hours will almost certainly have experienced the often lengthy delays caused by the road work which seems to have been going on for an unusually long time. The work is not a town project, but in fact a project undertaken by the state Department of Transportation and United Water New Jersey to connect the various water mains along Route 94 and eventually connect Main Street in the new town center and Church Street Vernon Township Manager Dan Teolis has received many complaints from residents and business owners along Route 94 who have had problems with access. "We are not involved in this project but have tried to intercede and address some of the concerns of different individuals," he said. "I feel that we have indeed improved communication and there is a spirit of cooperation between United Water and business owners." According to the company's web site, two years ago United Water New Jersey served more than 3,000 customers in Sussex County, with an average daily demand of 393,945 gallons of water. It had then eight miles of mains, 58 hydrants and two operating wells. Repeated calls to United Water for information on when the project will be done and whether Route 94 will be repaved were not returned at press time.
