Hardyston — The Sussex County YMCA recently hosted a camp social for returning campers and others interested in Teen Camp. Pre-teens and teens attended the free event that included camp games, hotdogs and bug juice. YMCA’s Senior Program Director Joanne Browne and Head Counselor Candice Ayres announced the specific themes specially created for each week of the Teen Camp program. “Coming up with creative theme weeks was a fun team-effort,” said Ayres. “We really listened to what kids this age want and gave them programs that teach responsibility, like our Red Cross Guard Start class, our babysitting course and cool ways to lessen our carbon footprint on our planet. We also included a lot of just pure fun activities like making a movie, doing cannonballs in the pool, trips to the Jersey Shore and New York museums, making sculptures and graffiti art and camping overnight at the YMCA facility.” Teen Camp begins the first week most schools are out, June 22, and ends Aug. 21. It is a nine-week program designed for those entering grades six through nine, and runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m, Monday through Friday. The Sussex County YMCA is located at 15 Wits End Road, in Hardyston. For more information call 973-209-9622 or visit www.sussexcountyymca.org.
