Young scientists study robotics

Students from Immaculate Conception Regional School in Franklin are now part of the largest middle school technology contest, FIRST Lego-League. More than 110,000 students from 47 countries participate in two basic competitions, NXT robotics and a research and development project based on “Smart Moves” that asks the students to investigate making transportation more efficient. Immaculate Conception school has two teams enrolled and will participate in state competition held at Mt. Olive High School on Dec. 9, 2009. The school now has a seventh- and eighth-grade team of 10 students and plans to create a fifth- and sixth-grade robotics club. The school also integrates robotics into its science curriculum including programing temperature, ultrasonic and light sensors. Go to www.usfirst.org for more information on this popular program.
