Looking back and ahead 50 years

On Flag Day 1976, my fifth-grade social studies class at Lounsberry Hollow School in Vernon held a special outdoor program.

At that program, the students buried a time capsule they had prepared.

The capsule was enclosed in a specially made stainless steel tube. It is to be opened on July 4, 2076 (America’s tricentennial or tercentennial).

I will celebrate the Fourth of July 2026 by looking through my old files and reminiscing about the day my students and I buried so many interesting artifacts from 50 years ago.

And I will wonder what students of 2026 would put in a time capsule if they could make one today
