I attended Sally Rinker’s meet and greet Sept. 24. I heard good things about her commitment to Vernon but had no idea how extensive it was.
She has been on almost every town board, volunteered for many town and civic organizations, served in local government, and is a successful builder with projects all over town.
Ms. Rinker spoke in detail about many Vernon issues. She has plans for each and every concern, such as high taxes, no new businesses, and zoning ordinances that compromise the quality of life for residents.
She has plans for Legends, developing Main Street, and supporting emergency volunteers with LOSAP and tax rebates.
I met Ms. Rinker when she supported residential property owners to oppose cannabis growers in residential zones. A former council voted to approve cannabis growers in residential zones, even after our own Land Use Board (LUB) voted unanimously to advise the council against it.
Ignoring the advice of our LUB has caused a cascade of issues, including the LUB being bound to approve the application though they were against it.
I live near this approval and am very worried, along with my neighbors, about our property values and quality of life.
Ms. Rinker spoke at the LUB meeting to insist the LUB make the growers follow every requirement precisely. Her career in the building industry gives her the the ability to understand it all.
We need a mayor who has the energy and the knowledge - vote Rinker for Mayor!
