Thanks for the memories

My son, Dean, is deployed overseas and this morning, he had a special request. It seems his fellow soldiers in the desert were amused about his story of the time he was struck by lightning, so he asked if I still had the article by "The Advertiser." I took a chance and went on your website and found it — Aug. 28, 2009. I also found articles about his Golden Gloves fights, committees I've been on, teams my husband has coached, boy scouts, girl scouts, academic and athletic milestones, even a tribute letter to my husband that I penned for Valentine's Day. As the list grew, I started to recollect how many times your paper has been part of my family's lives.

We became subscribers to your publication while still living in Bergen County. When my husband, Dino, and I bought land here in the 80s, we were struck by the sense of community when everyone rallied around the "radon scare." Your paper was our eyes and ears even before we built our home.

By the time we moved, we had a good sense of the people here. We learned what a tricky tray was, we lovingly laughed at our small-town "news," and one of my hobbies was seeing how many typos there were in this week's edition. My son thought it was cool that you still had this article, and spent the good part of his day off, going through others. As a member of the Vernon Military Moms, I can't tell you enough that the best medicine for a deployed soldier is anything that reminds them of home. Your paper did that for him and I wanted to take the time now to say "THANKS FOR THE MEMORIES."
