Why are we succumbing to hate?

I am reading a very insightful Sept. 4, New York Times op-ed by Thomas Edsell titled “The Trump Voters Whose Need for Chaos Obliterates Everything Else.” And I am wondering if that “need for chaos” is much about, the inborn human desire for meaning, being called as we are in our creation to be witnesses to the glorious and wondrous Divine, Life-giving, Life-nurturing co-creative dynamic of Life’s evolutionary flow.

In a world darkened and deadened by a murderous and suicidal loss of any sense of meaning; in a world where “me first, last and always permeate our polluted air; where compassion and relationships fade into almost being no more; why should we be surprised to see our human species be no more? Why be surprised when we divide humans into “haves and have nots:, when the anti-life dynamics of Trump and Trumpism take central stage; when hatred and lies rule our days and nights? Why be surprised that humanity’s thriving or even surviving are very much at stake? Why be surprised when so many become haters of the haters and liars?

But, so very importantly, we must not justify or judge the Trump supporters, or we will succumb to that hatred destroying us all. Only by not succumbing will each of us be Lights of Hope and Love as we are meant to Be! And offer us a chance to make it through all the madness. And to sing our L”Chaim To Life!
