Y is more than just a gym

Although some people think of the Sussex County YMCA, or for that matter any Y, as only a gym and swim, many of us truly understand that the Y is so much more. The YMCA is the leading nonprofit organization for strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The impact our Y has on the Sussex County community is immeasurable. It gives kids a safe place to learn and build confidence through the many programs it offers including camp, afterschool care, teen leaders group, sporting and other activities. It allows families an opportunity to reconnect and grow together and it helps our local seniors to achieve greater health and well being for their spirit, mind and body.

One of the more significant goals of our Y is to make sure no one is ever turned away from its programs and services due to their inability to pay. The Sussex County Y's Annual Campaign makes this a reality. The campaign provides support for individuals and families in need, giving them the opportunity to participate in the many programs and services offered. Since 2005, Sussex County Y's staff and volunteers have raised over $1,200,000 through its Annual Support Campaign and our Y has provided to our friends and neighbors right here in Sussex County more than $1,800,000 in direct financial assistance.

Over the next four weeks the 2014 Campaign will be in full swing. Please think about supporting our community by making a donation. When you give to the Y, your gift will have a meaningful, enduring impact right in your own neighborhood. To donate on line go to www.metroymcas.org/main/give-to-the-y or send your pledge to Sussex County YMCA, 15 Wits End Road, Hardyston, NJ 07419. If you have any questions about the campaign or think you or a family member may benefit from the financial assistance program, feel free to call the Y directly at 973- 209-9622.

Remember, our community is stronger because of the Y and together we can help continue to build an even stronger Sussex County.
