Outreach Sports program

I'm a retired Sussex County educator. For the past three years we have met in Davis Hall located at First Baptist Church of Newton. We are a non-profit group who give children in Preschool through high school an opportunity to play a variety of indoor sports for absolutely free. Basketball, volleyball, floor hockey, sock soccer, kickball, wiffleball, bowling, and parachute are some of the activities we play. We meet on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. This year, we have two 2 hour sessions. Session One: Preschool-4th grades meet from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Session Two: 5th-8th grades meet from 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. All high school students can either coach, referee, sometimes participate or all three. All adult volunteers have passed a criminal background check. All participants, volunteers and parents may also enjoy healthy snacks and drinks for free. Registration is required and there's still a few weeks left in the program. We began in January and we'll end on March 24 with a pizza party for the participants, volunteers and parents who remain. In each session I give a brief devotional to the groups. We speak on topics such as kindness, perseverance, sharing, respect, and good sportsmanship. In the public school we call it Character Education.
First Baptist Church of Newton is located on the corner of Main and Liberty Streets (across from the Dennis Library). Outreach Sports is for ALL students living in Newton and the surrounding communities.
