    SUSSEX MAN STOPPED SPEEDING, ARRESTED FOR DWI

    On 9/19/2019 at approximately 12:15 am, Cpl. Kurt Morris observed a white Toyota suv speeding, 75-55 mph zone, on Rt. 15 north. Upon stopping the vehicle and approaching the driver, 58 yr old Michael Evans of Sussex, NJ, Officer Morris detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from within the vehicle. Officer Morris asked Mr. Evans to step out of his vehicle to perform some Field Sobriety tests. Upon completion of the tests, Mr. Evans was placed under arrest for DWI and transported to Sparta Police HQ to be processed. Upon completion of breath testing, Mr. Evans was charged with: Speeding, DWI, Obstructed View and Careless Driving. He was advised of a mandatory court appearance and released to be sober adult.

    UNLICENSED DRIVER FAILS TO MOVE OVER FOR EMERGENCY VEHICLE

    On 9/16/19 at approximately 11:30 pm, P.O. Taylor May was on a m.v. stop on the shoulder of Rt 15 north, when a red Kia passed him without getting over to the left lane. Officer May cleared his stop and caught up to the Kia, stopping it on Rt 15 N. After stopping the vehicle and approaching the driver, 30 yr old Chazmon Lloyd of Valley Cottage, NY, Officer May requested Mr. Lloyd’s driving credentials, which he could not provide. A check of Mr. Lloyd’s name showed that he had a NY license in the past, but was currently unlicensed. A further check turned up a $900 warrant from Upper Saddle River, NJ court. Mr. Lloyd was placed under arrest and transported to Sparta Police HQ to be processed. He was charged with: Failing to Move Over When Passing a Stopped Emergency Vehicle, Unclear Plates, Unlicensed Driver and Failure to Produce a Driver’s License. He was advised of a mandatory court appearance. Upper Saddle River was contacted and issued a new court date on their warrant. Mr. Lloyd was served his paperwork and released.

    FRANKLIN MAN WANTED ON WARRANT, RUNS

    On 09/10/2019, Sparta Police received an anonymous call that 29 yr old Kyle Talmadge of Franklin Boro, NJ was working at a residence in Sparta and was wanted on an active no-bail warrant out of the Sussex County Sheriff’s Department. Upon patrols arrival, Mr. Talmadge took flight into the woods adjacent to the residence. Cpl. Marc Rubino went into the woods after Mr. Talmadge and was able to locate him. Cpl. Rubino gave a verbal command for Mr. Talmadge to stop and surrender, which he complied with. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to Sparta Police HQ to be processed. Mr. Talmadge was charged with Obstruction of Justice (fleeing) and advised of a mandatory court appearance before being turned over to the Sussex County Sheriff’s Department for their body warrant.
